Regional Development

The Lake Balaton Resort Area forms an integral region around the lake, whose connecting power is the lake itself and the socio-economic environment defined by the lake. Due to the tourism revenues, the Lake Balaton region represents a significant factor in the national economy. Therefore, continuous development of the region plays a high priority.


VISION

THE LAKE BALATON REGION AIMS TO BECOME A MODEL OF NATURALNESS WITH HIGH STANDARDS OF LIVING IN THE CENTRAL-EUROPEAN REGION.



The vision is based on the following four pillars:



The aim is to create a region that provides physical, spiritual, and social regeneration, a region where the power, pureness and quality of nature and the vitality of local people are evident. The region is an outstanding example of national importance for the unity of environment and society and for the achievement of harmonious and sustainable social development. This is a region, where the society (local residents and tourists) protects, transforms and builds the natural and built environment, the communities and the economy in an innovative and sustainable way that the environment can guarantee the prosperity and well-being of the society in return.


OVERALL DEVELOPMENT GOAL

The main objective is to introduce more dynamism and boost the economy of the Lake Balaton region in order to ensure predictable life and working environment all year round for people living and working in the area. Accordingly, the overall goal is to develop and transform the Lake Balaton region into a place where it is:

  • Good to live;
  • Good to relax and recreate;
  • Good to work and establish enterprises.


In accordance to the overall development goal, the Council has elaborated the planning documents of the Lake Balaton Resort Area for the 2014-2020 programme period, implements various sectoral programmes, provides support for local initiatives (project development) and participates in international cooperations and projects.
