Since environmental system of the lake is very vulnerable, it is important to coordinate developments and to establish a sustainable management and planning system at regional level, which is suitable for monitoring the activities.

The Lake Balaton Development Coordination Agency was the first amongst the regional development agencies in Hungary, which has introduced the EMAS (ECOManagement and Audit Scheme of the EU).

The application of this environmental management system at local municipalities contributes to improve quality of the environment of the settlements.

Thereby, the overall aim of LBDCA is to set an example by the introduction of EMAS in the field of integrated systems approach to environmental management/protection.
