DEVELOPING SENIOR TOURISM IN REMOTE REGIONS
The accelerating and unfavourable demographic changes impose new challenges. The proportion of the population ages 65 and above is currently about 17%, but it is expected to reach 23% before 2030 in Europe. However, aging of the population imposes not only challenges, but also offers opportunities. Pensioners have become a very important consumer group. Therefore, the overall objective of the project is to enhance regional economy by the means of tourism development, and to support active and healthy ageing.
Partnership: 12 organisations from 10 countries (Finland, Slovakia, Hungary, Latvia, Greece, Poland, Romania, Ireland, Spain and Bulgaria). The lead partner of the project is the Regional Council of North Karelia.
