organized an online consultation (webinar)

The Lake Balaton Development Coordination Agency, the operational body of the Lake Balaton Development Council, organized an online consultation (webinar) on regional development issues on July 22, 2020.

Lake Balaton area, like other large lake regions in Europe, forms a very complex socio-economic system, which builds on tourism services based on unique natural characteristics, as well as on the recreational and residential utilisation of lakes. However, existing sectoral and integrated territorial policies do not manage large lakes adequately in terms of the level of their complexity and importance, neither at national nor at EU levels. Planning for the 2021-2027 programming period is currently in progress. We consider it would be important to dedicate more attention to lake areas in regional development.

The aim of the webinar was to introduce the status of the ongoing planning processes in relation to regional development, and to draw attention to the need for integrated and programme-based development of lakes. The invited speakers include Mr. Anton Schrag, Deputy Head of Unit responsible for Hungary, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and Mr. Viktor Horváth, Head of Department for Planning and Coordination of Direct EU Resources, Ministry of Innovation and Technology.
