Delivering efficient sustainable tourism with low-carbon transport innovations: sustainable mobility, accessibility & responsible travel
Project objective: The DESTI-SMART project aims at improving transport and tourism policies at destinations by integrating strategies for low-carbon sustainable mobility, accessibility and responsible travel with sustainable tourism development, and through efficiency, resilience, intermodality, novel transport systems, cycling and walking for visitors.
The project focuses on four key thematics:
A. Investments in low-carbon transport systems for visitors, shifting travel demand from private cars to sustainable mobility modes, including ElectroMobility, Demand Responsive Transit, Light Rapid Transit
B. Infrastructure and Intermodality Services for Visitors, Information and Communication Technologies including Mobile Applications, Mobility as Service (MaaS) in tourism
C. Accessibility to tourist attractions and services, accessible tourism for all (disabled, elderly, families with young children)
D. Cycling and walking facilities for visitors, including cycling tourism and development of ‘Greenways’
Partnership: Towards this direction, DESTI-SMART promotes the collaboration among different stakeholders in 9 European countries. The lead partner of the project is: Metropolitan Development Agency of Thessaloniki S.A., Greece
